About the Series

It's 1838-ish, pre-"Raj" India. Jefferji Tamisen is a British orphan raised as the foster-son of a Rajput prince (so far so good!). But Jefferji has chosen his own unique path. He's a talented temple-dancer, with an unusual specialization in escorting the devotees of Radha, the divine Consort, into the arms of the soul's Bridegroom, Sri Krsna. And vice versa. In doing so he shares in their joy in the presence of the Dark One: sometimes sharing their happy exchange of intimacies, as well. His courtesy-uncle Captain Fontenoy, one of the dearest friends of Jefferji's dead father, thinks it's high time the nearly-nineteen Jefferji turned his many skills to intrigue, proposing a initiatory journey of a sort from Tengarpore in Rajputana into the high Pamirs northeast of Kashmir. It'll present Tamisen and Fontenoy with challenges and opportunities wonderful, terrible, undreamt-of: and one of those challenges is a refugee Circassian war-lord called Shikander Beg who is destined to lead Jefferji on stranger paths than Jefferji had ever imagined. Before the story's done There Will Be Fireworks that resonate across space and time, and Jefferji will dance within the eternal Now that is the hub of the great Wheel.
